Benefits Of Concrete Leveling And Concrete Lifting Via Polyurethane Foam Injection

The benefits of concrete leveling and concrete lifting – also known as slabjacking or polyurethane foam injection – are many, including:

  • It’s a repair that lasts. The foam used to lift a sunken concrete slab is light as a feather and won’t add additional weight to soil that is already struggling to hold up a heavy slab.
  • It’s cost-effective. It’s less expensive to lift a slab using polyurethane foam injection than it is to dig up and replace the slab.
  • Most jobs can be completed in just a few hours. After the slab has been fixed, you can immediately start using it. No down time.
  • It won’t leach chemicals into the soil.  This makes polyurethane foam a green solution.
  • Level concrete just looks good! Sunken, uneven concrete is an eyesore.

What Causes Concrete Slabs To Sink Or Become Uneven?

Concrete slabs sink and become uneven for various reasons including…

Too much water in the soil. Water can cause soil erosion and leave behind voids. The slab sinks into the voids and becomes uneven.

The soil under the slab is weak. Some types of soil aren’t strong enough to support a heavy slab.

Expansive soil. Expansive soil expands as it absorbs water and contracts as it dries out. Over time this swelling-shrinking cycle can result in an uneven slab.

Invasive tree roots. This happens when large roots push against a slab and cause sections of it to become uneven.

What Are The Different Ways To Lift And Level A Concrete Slab?

Today, there are two ways to lift and level a sunken concrete slab: Polyurethane foam injection and mudjacking. Mudjacking is the “old school” way of fixing a sunken slab and isn’t as common as it once was. Most contractors today use polyurethane foam injection to lift sunken slabs. Of course, another way of repairing a sunken slab is to dig it up and replace it. However, this is expensive and time consuming.

Mudjacking

Mudjacking
Mudjacking used to be the go-to method for fixing sunken slabs. The main problem with mudjacking is the weight of the cement slurry used to lift the slab. It weighs a lot, and if the slab became uneven because weak soil wasn’t able to support it, mudjacking could make the problem worse.

Concrete Replacement

Replacing a slab means digging up the old one and pouring new concrete. This solution is both expensive and time consuming. You can’t use a freshly poured concrete slab right away because it needs time to harden. Also, if the slab became uneven because of weak soil, the same thing will happen to the new slab.

Polyurethane Foam Injection

Polyurethane foam injection (also known as ‘’slabjacking’’) is a fast, minimally-invasive technique for lifting and leveling sunken concrete slabs. Most repairs can be completed in a few hours and then the slab is ready for use. It’s also less expensive than tearing up and replacing the slab.
